17 April 2017 (Speedworld, Austria): Reigning Asian Karting Champion and two-time Indian National Champion racer Shahan Ali Mohsin put up a scintillating performance in the Rotax Max Central European Championship to clinch 2nd place overall – his first podium in his ultra-competitive European campaign this year.

Shahan3 Shahan was driving in the Mini Max category which comprised of 20 drivers from Austria, Hungary, Poland, Serbia and Japan; with Shahan being the sole Indian representative. Driving in the colours of Uniq Racing Team – with whom he had competed in the Rotax Euro Finale last year, the 12-year old Indian quickly showed his pace in practice sessions early on in the weekend.

He went on to clinch pole position in qualifying, thanks to a searing lap that put him at the front of the grid. In the pre-final, Shahan finished third after a super close battle for the lead which saw top three drivers trade fastest laps and positions throughout the race.

The finals were as close and Shahan managed to go one better and finish second whilst battling with Bence Valint and Jerzy Spinkiewicz. Shahan2In the Super Finals – the finishing event of the weekend – he held his nerve in a close battle with two front-runners to clinch second place on the podium.

“This is a trophy I am going to cherish for a long time. We haven’t had the luck on our side in Europe so far but this weekend everything just went to plan. We had a good setup, we were able to stick to our programme and improve all the time. The race was relatively incident-free even though there were a few close calls given the stiff competition”, said an elated Shahan.

Shahan is supported by Park Exports, AFMEC, Sakura Air conditioners and Nealson Shoes.
